History: The “FEAR” in “Fearsome Foursome” can most be attributed to Deacon Jones, aka, “TheSecretary of Defense.” The group that included fellow Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen, and Pro Bowlers Lamar Lundy and Rosey Grier were certainly worthy of the moniker, but it was Jones, notorious for his vicious head slaps and coining of the term “Sack,” and doing it so frequently that struck the most fear in the opposition. Jones was an 8x Pro Bowler and a member of the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.
